Ingredients

Doughs and Batters

  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tablespoon instant espresso powder
  • 1 cup shredded coconut

Frying and Dipping

  • 2 cups vegetable oil
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 0.5 cup ketchup

Chocolate and Filling

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter

Additional Ingredients

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup eggnog

Instructions 

  • Prepare the coconut custard babka dough by mixing flour, sugar, cocoa, espresso, and coconut milk. Let it rise for 1 hour.
  • Roll out the dough, spread with coconut, then roll and cut into slices. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 25 minutes.
  • For the chocolate truffles, heat heavy cream and butter, pour over chocolate chips, stir until smooth, then chill for 2 hours.
  • Form the chilled ganache into balls, then coat with shredded coconut or powdered sugar as desired.
  • Prepare the crispy onion petals by slicing onions, dipping in batter, and frying until golden. Serve with zesty dipping sauce.
