A quick and flavorful Thai dish featuring fragrant basil, spicy chilies, and savory sauces served over jasmine rice with a fried egg on top.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground chicken or finely chopped chicken thighs
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 6 cloves garlic minced
  • 4 Thai chilies Thai chilies thinly sliced (Adjust for spice level)
  • 1 small shallot finely chopped (optional)
  • 1 cup Thai basil leaves (can substitute with sweet basil or holy basil)
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

Additional

  • Steamed jasmine rice Steamed jasmine rice (served on the side)
  • Fried egg per serving Fried egg (traditionally served on top)

Instructions 

  • Prepare your ingredients: mince garlic, slice chilies, chop vegetables.
  • Heat wok or skillet over high heat, add oil until shimmering.
  • Stir-fry garlic and chilies until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add chicken and cook until browned and cooked through.
  • Mix fish sauce, soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sugar; pour into pan. Cook until sauce thickens slightly.
  • Add basil leaves and stir until wilted. Serve over jasmine rice with a fried egg on top.

Notes

Use fresh Thai basil for authentic flavor. Adjust chili amount for spice preference.
