Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 8 pieces bone-in and skin-on chicken thighs (approximately 4 pounds)
  • 0.25 cup spice rub (see recipe below)
  • 1.5 cups prepared barbecue sauce (e.g., Sweet Baby Ray’s)
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons smoked paprika
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon dry mustard
  • 1 tablespoon cumin
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions 

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and oil.
  • Mix spices to make the rub, set aside ¼ cup for the recipe.
  • Pat chicken dry, place skin side down, and sprinkle with 2 tbsp of spice rub.
  • Flip chicken, coat with remaining 2 tbsp spice rub, bake 15 min.
  • Brush ⅓ barbecue sauce on both sides, bake 15 min, repeat twice with remaining sauce.
  • Check for doneness (165°F), broil 1-2 min for crisp skin, rest 5 min before serving.

Notes

Ensure chicken reaches 165°F for safety.
